Today’s topic is in relation to working on getting the correct alignment while putting.
The article linked to this post was obtained from the October 2003 Issue (#176) of Golf Australia magazine.
Alignment seems to be one of the most common putting problems for club golfers (amateurs) as well as some professional golfers. The feet and the shoulders sometimes are not aligned and not parallel to each other, and in line with the target line.
The drill discussed in the attached article is as follows:
- When addressing the ball, incorporate a cross handed set up into your pre-putt routine. This will help bring the left shoulder back into a square to the target position.
- Once the line to start the putt on is established, place the putter behind the ball and put your left hand (if right handed) low on the grip.
- Without moving the position of your left shoulder, slide your left hand back up the grip to its normal position and complete the grip with your right hand
If this is followed, you should now be in a square position that will allow you to make a better and more square stroke.
To ensure that you are correctly aligned, you could lay the shaft of your putter across your shoulder (refer to picture in attached article). The shaft should be pointing parallel to the target line if you are in the right position.
Happy golfing and have a great weekend!
