Today was the first day in I cannot remember how many years that I played 18 holes. Actually no, I do remember playing some golf with Brother R and Brother A in 2016 in Glen Waverley.
It was a stroke round, and while my long game was pretty consistent i.e. my drives I felt I was hitting them around 180-200 metres? Is it because I was usually Brother R’s Callaway driver?
It was pretty cool hitting these long shots on the par 5s and par 4s. There were a few long par 3s of around 140metres and after shanking the first two 5 wood shots, I switched to my 3, 4 and 5 irons and got a lot of consistency.
The part that let me down was my pitches and chips. I would be 2 on the fringe of a par 4 and take 5 shots to get the ball in the hole.
I started the round with holing a putt from about 12 feet and that gave me a weird feeling haha. First putt after many years and holing it?
My total score was 104 and therefore I played to a handicap of 31! Of course I did not complete the scorecard to submit, but it was an enjoyable round with wonderful fellow players who made me feel very comfortable and they were kind enough to help me strategise the long game shots and where to aim to avoid any trouble. Most of the time I was able to hit my ball towards the target and it was actually amazing how accurate I was able to be! I put this down to the long game practice over the past few months.
I definitely need to get a lesson on short game and start focussing on that.
I will commit to playing 18 holes at least once a week for now, and continue to practice and work on improving my game overall.
Have a great weekend!
