This is the final part of a 3 part series based on an article in the April 2001 Golf Magazine Australian Edition.
The outcome of the study has caused Dr. Crews to come up with the following list on how to handle emotions while putting under pressure:
- Start with a Breath
- Set your primary goal
- Be specific
- Do your thinking behind the ball
- Avoid practice swings during your pre-shot routine
- Get comfortable
- Connect on the last look
- End with a breath
While practicing, you want to experiment with setting target-oriented intentions and a right-brain pre-shot routine as you wager with a partner on the putting green, or imagine trouble on the range. As with the course, the more specific the goal during practice, the better. Break up your 100 balls into sets of 10 – 10 for accuracy, 10 for shotmaking, 10 for tee shots etc. The more you define your practice, the more you are practicing for success.
