Good Evening All,
I’m finally back on track after having missed the last several days of daily writing.
Today’s post is based on the June 2000 issue of Golf Monthly (a UK based magazine).
This article talks about a topic that interests me quite a bit. The subconscious and inner being that each one of us possesses – the all knowing ‘soul’ or ‘source’.
Jack Nicklaus, one of the greatest golfers ever, states that he never hits a shot without visualizing it clearly in his mind first.
This is one way of improving the overall accuracy, distance and consistency of your game – to visualize the entire shape of the trajectory of your ball, the degree of spin and how the ball lands on the fairway or green, bounces and rolls to a complete rest.
The way to do it is as follows:
- Recall the greatest shot you have ever hit
- Then imagine standing behind the ball and looking down the fairway towards your target (as per image of Per-Ulrik Johansson)
- Pretend you are a film director making a movie in your ‘minds eye’ of your desired ball flight
- Store that image and build a memory library of other other excellent shots you have hit to help you focus on what you want to achieve whenever you face a similar shot
Visualisation is one of the few times where you have total conscious control over what you are doing. Only hitting shots once you have a good and clear picture in your ‘mind’s eye’ will save you many strokes.
Happy golfing and happy April 2013 – have a great 2nd quarter of the year!
