This post is the final in a series of 3 posts from an article in the February 1998 issue if Australian Golf Digest in which 3 LPGA players discuss and show good technique.
When it comes to scoring, it is usually done through putting (unless it is a hole in one or a chip in from off the green). Therefore it is imperative that the right technique is used.
Annika Sorenstam who was one of the great lady golfers of all time demonstrates some of the things she does to maintain her putting technique.
The secret to good putting is in developing a pendulum type motion controlled by the shoulders. At address, the arms and shaft form a ‘Y’. Maintain the Y throughout the stroke by rocking the shoulders up and down. This minimizes excessive movement of the wrists which is necessary in short putts. For longer putts, the more the shoulders are rocked to create the momentum in the stroke and speed in the ball.
- Y shape – rock shoulders up and down
- Minimize wrist movement
Happy putting!
